Following a terminal illness and death in the family, how do you go on with your life?
Søren M. Thomsen did it by making his first graphic novel “DAD”, a heart touching homage to his father and family:
– It was not the intention to get my “Dad story” published.
The day after my father passed away, I sketched the “shooting star panel”, and then spent the following year piecing the story together.
Creating “Dad” was a way for me to cope with my thoughts and grief.
The emotional strain of writing the story forced me to put it in hold for months at a time.
For 4½ years I wrote, drew – rewrote and redrew.
When the story was almost done, my brother suggested showing it to a publisher.
New projects
– Currently I’m working on several stories about soldiers suffering from PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder).
This will probably take as long as “Dad” due to the amount of research and interviews needed.
