The six-book series of Mortensen’s Escapades was published in Denmark and became an imprint in the US. Later the intense time travel series was published in Belgium and Holland and in the German magazine Zack. Even published in Iceland.
It has been more than a time travel for Lars Jakobsen who is the creator of the book series. Lars Jakobsen writes the stories, draws the scenario and do all the colouring himself.
”It is hard work to make comics – it takes forever to make, and you have to believe in what you’re doing all the way. Otherwise, you will lose the reader – and your story will be irrelevant.
I tried to create a series of stories with strange and mysterious things in our world history – I wanted to draw fast cars and old school steampunk machines – so I had to create a time-travel hero who would be able to walk around in a world, where all times were possible. I thought it was a genius way to be able to draw all the things I liked and not end up being bored, with the series only taking place in one place.
However – it did turn up a little tricky – I had to create some laws of physics to make the stories work. So creating the stories is a challenge – but at the end, I get to draw all the funny things.”
Look forward to attend festivals again in 2023
The books are published in different sizes and formats in different countries and some had changes made to fit each country.
”I had the opportunity to do signing at the New York Comic-Con before the pandemic, and it was a huge success – I never signed so many copies so fast. Mortensen books really took on the American readers.
I am grateful for all the fans of the Mortensen books and I really look forward to attending the Belgium and Dutch festivals again in 2023.”
